Safeguarding

The Christian principle love thy neighbour underpins the Society of Christ’s policy that abuse of residents in any form will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Types of abuse

  • PHYSICAL: symptoms include signs of injury, restraint, fear
  • EMOTIONAL: behaviours include threatening, bullying, belittling, controlling; symptoms include rocking, mumbling
  • SEXUAL: symptoms include bruised breasts/genitals, unexplained genital infections, bleeding
  • NEGLECT: symptoms include malnutrition, dehydration, soiled bedding/clothes, bed sores, unsuitable clothing
  • FINANCIAL: suspicious withdrawals from bank account/ATM, suspicious changes in Wills, unnecessary services/goods
  • DISCRIMINATORY: racist, sexist, ageist
  • INSTITUTIONAL: lack of flexibility, consultation

It is a contractual obligation for staff to:

  • Carry out their duties with due regard for safeguarding residents against abuse
  • Immediately report to the manager abuse on the part of colleagues, families, visitors that they witness or hear about.
  • Love one another as I have loved you, says the Lord

    Best friends…
